Q: Tell me a little bit more about Outer Banks Epicurean.
A: Sure! We get excited to talk about our passion - Food and everything related... especially Outer Banks Epicurean! So here's how we began... In the summer of 2005, Outer Banks Epicurean promoted its first cooking class series. The brainchild of Founder Amy Huggins, the project had already had about a five year gestation period! Fortunately, the Left Bank Restaurant at the Sanderling in Corolla believed in the possibilities of culinary partnership and graciously allowed the Epicurean team to teach in their facilty with their support staff every Monday that year!
Through the fall, winter and spring, Epicurean presented mobile culinary adventures (Food Tours!) and taught classes both in private homes and local restaurants to locals and visitors to the Outer Banks. Restaurant employee and team training was established, Team Building workshops were structured and a website was created to promote culinary adventures.
In the Summer of 2006 the Dare County Arts Council Workshop Space became available. Outer Banks Epicurean worked with DCAC and promoted culinary workshops which benefited both groups. The Fourth Thursday Food + Wine pairing events became monthly and mobile. Chip's, Meridian 42 and Native Vine are frequent locations of the monthly events.
2007 brought much growth in the personal chef industry on the Outer Banks. Epicurean is a different type of culinary opportunity - we are always about teaching a lesson. We do love to support local caterers and personal chefs - so always ask for a recommendation if you are not looking for a cooking lesson!
2008 is a great year so far as Epicurean has branched into staged culinary productions and a Lecture, Coffee, Chat Series. Partnering with Port O' Call and the DCRA, Epicurean is presenting the inventor of gastonomical boogie woogie, The Sauce Boss for www.obxtasteofthebeach.com in March. An active supporter of Dare County Restaurant Association, Epicurean is excited to be a part of the first ever 4 day exploration of foods on the Outer Banks. Buy tickets early for this one - all the events will be sold out! Part of the proceeds from The Sauce Boss perfomance will benefit the Community Care Clinic, the DCRA Scholarship Program and the Dare County Arts Council Endowment Fund. Buy a ticket now.
